Match Report
From Derby Daily Telegraph
At Owlerton, in splendid weather, before 20,000 people. Benson was away from the United. In the first half, with the conditions ideal, the game was excellently fought. Lyall saved well from Evans, though the home team generally had the better of the game, and Simpson headed a pretty goal from Wilson’s centre after 40 minutes. The rest of the half ran in Wednesday’s favour. Interval – Wednesday one, United none. In the second half, United opened well, and Hardinge missed a fine chance of equalising in five minutes, and later on, Peart should have scored. Wednesday later on made several dashes but were well held near goal, both Brooks and Johnson being very safe. No more goals were scored, Wednesday just gaining the honour in an even game. Result- Wednesday one, United none.
